FreedomPop’s President, Nicholas Constaninopoulos recently sat down with Kavit Majithia in a discussion about the telecoms giant’s expansion plans. The executive talked about his firm’s free data plan and how they have put in place strategies to set up operations to new frontiers. The exclusive and informative interview has created a buzz in the telecoms circles because those who have subscribed to the firm’s services are bound to benefit more when the new plan is rolled out.
Mr. Constaninopoulos also announced that the company has slashed the prices of revamped phones. Monthly fees and roaming charges have also been considerably reduced. He also disclosed that the first phase of the expansion strategy will see the company start operations in 25 countries for a start. This will be followed by the inauguration of a giant universal Wi-Fi hotspot.
In recent weeks, FreedomPop has managed to raise 50 million dollars from investors. The money will be used to set up infrastructure needed to actualize the growth strategy. This money will be recouped within a short time. There has been an increase in the number of subscribers who are shifting from free services to prepaid services, which are however affordable. This is a Los Angeles based mobile service company and is involved in the provision of wireless Internet connection. It was founded by Stephen Stokolos in 2011 with the sole purpose of availing unpaid data connection, messaging and calling services. Besides this, it also retails mobile devices for use within its network. It is credited with pioneering the provision of 4G hotspots in the US. This was done through the exploitation of Clearwire’s 4G system.
In a bid to bring more subscribers on board, FreedomPop launched an app meant for apple mobile phones and tablets in 2014. This application allows users to call text and send voice messages for free within the US. Recently, it inaugurated a global SIM card, which will see it offer free internet connection globally.
